How a Fukushima-Level Disaster Would Affect You In the US

I think it is a wake up call for everybody to raise the awareness of how dangerous Nuclear power is and also understand it better. There are 64 plants, 104 reactors through out the united states and all of them could have same disaster that Fukshima plant is facing right now. This is not a movie, this is not news from some foreign country. This could happen to us anytime. This is our problem and when things go wrong, sadly we will have to suffer the consequences for generations. We don't need any more nuclear plants built. We should seriously consider reducing the number of the nuclear plants. we also have to take responsibility for every component of our energy supply and the consequences it carries such as climate changes. Not just nuclear reactors, we should apply the same standards to all generating technologies. This is not just for us, but for the future.

The US government was asking all citizens inside an 80km (50miles) radius to leave for the Fukushima power plants disaster. If the federal government followed the same policy in US soil, this would be the consequences in the three most populated cities: New York, LA and Chicago. In the case of New York, more than 20 million people in the metro area would have to be evacuated, leaving the city deserted, from Long Island to the Bronx. If there were a Fukushima-level accident at Indian Point, including the release of massive quantities of highly radioactive water, the city would be even more affected because of the Hudson River.
As I always say, getting into a panic and being prepared are totally different things. We should be prepared for the worst scenario if there is 1% of possible danger.

No Nuke Protests in Japan

Japan is facing a serious nuke problem right now. Shamefully I don't see any effort of the administration, Tepco (energy company) and media to make the situation better at all. Things are getting worse everyday... It seems like they are concealing many things... sadly it is making many people in Japan blind from the truth and awareness to the situation they are in at this moment; however, people have started to stand for their country and their future!! Unfortunately the efforts of my people have not made it to mass media outlets much. There are several “No Nuke” protests happening in Japan right now!
I personally think all the nuclear power plants should be stopped in Japan, even temporally at least.. It is just too dangerous to keep them running in Japan since they are still getting many aftershocks daily and it is very obvious that they cannot be promised safety. To add, we don't even know how much damage we are getting from the Fukushima plants' incident... Japan will definitely face too many difficult consequences of this mess for a long time; such as, environmentally, politically, economically, from all the different levels and most importantly people's health...
It is the time for every single one of us to pay more attention to what we are facing. We need to stand up together! With our help, support, and unity, Japan will rise again!!

japan is in pain...

I know it's fading away from news especially in foreign countries, but this is a on going crisis. This is much worse than what you are thinking and it is not getting any better. Please don't forget about them. They will need long time help!! It doesn't matter how small your help is, even just think about them and pray for them would be great. All your kind thoughts and gestures will cheer them up for sure.

Unfortunately it is obvious that we can not really depend on our government for helping the victims or fixing this huge mess...

In Iwaki City, Fukushima, There is tons of supplies just sitting only 0.6mile away from a community center where providing very limited water & food to the victims... They don't even release some to the individual volunteer groups. And military can not even deliver them to the victims until they get order from the administration. It is very frustrating see all the rescued supplies are being held. That's not where people wish to see their donation items at right now...

There are many people in very tough situations in North East Japan. Many small towns over there are still isolated and very low in food, water and supplies. We want to change this situation and hope that the victims have better support. We will put all of our effort into making sure your thoughts and contributions are sent directly to the victims. Please join us for our charity event, enjoy good music and have a great time supporting this important cause!!

↓The current situation of the food& Water rationing to the victims at a community center in Iwaki City, Fukushima. (03/26/2011)

↓ SOS video message from Mayor of Minami Soma City, next to the crippled Fukushima nuclear power plant. The administration basically have left them behind... (03/24/2011)

http://www.fukushima-u.ac.jp/sinsai-gienkin.html
