How a Fukushima-Level Disaster Would Affect You In the US

I think it is a wake up call for everybody to raise the awareness of how dangerous Nuclear power is and also understand it better. There are 64 plants, 104 reactors through out the united states and all of them could have same disaster that Fukshima plant is facing right now. This is not a movie, this is not news from some foreign country. This could happen to us anytime. This is our problem and when things go wrong, sadly we will have to suffer the consequences for generations. We don't need any more nuclear plants built. We should seriously consider reducing the number of the nuclear plants. we also have to take responsibility for every component of our energy supply and the consequences it carries such as climate changes. Not just nuclear reactors, we should apply the same standards to all generating technologies. This is not just for us, but for the future.

The US government was asking all citizens inside an 80km (50miles) radius to leave for the Fukushima power plants disaster. If the federal government followed the same policy in US soil, this would be the consequences in the three most populated cities: New York, LA and Chicago. In the case of New York, more than 20 million people in the metro area would have to be evacuated, leaving the city deserted, from Long Island to the Bronx. If there were a Fukushima-level accident at Indian Point, including the release of massive quantities of highly radioactive water, the city would be even more affected because of the Hudson River.
As I always say, getting into a panic and being prepared are totally different things. We should be prepared for the worst scenario if there is 1% of possible danger.
